Carpal Tunnel Surgery—Hand it to the Experts

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a medical condition that occurs when the median nerve— which runs from the forearm into the hand through a narrow, rigid passageway of ligament and bones (called the carpal tunnel)— becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist. Pain, weakness and/or numbness may result. Nonsurgical treatment may be effective for mild cases of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome; however, for more advanced stages, surgical intervention often becomes necessary.

The board-certified physicians of Wilmington Plastic Surgery are very experienced with carpal tunnel surgery, and several are hand surgery specialists. WPS surgeons use a limited incision approach, which involves cutting the ligament that is pressing on the nerve. This approach usually results in significant improvement, creates minimal discomfort and facilitates a speedy recovery.

Hand Reconstruction— A Firm Grasp On Corrective Surgery

Wilmington Plastic Surgery’s hand specialists include one of southeastern North Carolina’s only surgeons who is board certified in the subspecialty.

Hand reconstructive surgery can address many conditions—inherited and acquired—that can be unsightly, uncomfortable and restrictive in mobility. In addition to carpal tunnel syndrome, our surgeons address these and other conditions:

  • arthritis
  • cysts
  • tendon issues
  • trauma-related injuries
  • reconstructive issues (including scar contracture)

Wilmington Plastic Surgery physicians can also surgically separate webbed fingers with little to no scarring, as well as perform corrective surgery on children born with extra fingers or missing digits. These surgeries require very specialized skills, as they must also correct and balance the tendons and joints to ensure proper function.
