Carpal Tunnel Surgery

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a medical condition that occurs when the median nerve— which runs from the forearm into the hand through a narrow, rigid passageway of ligament and bones (called the carpal tunnel)— becomes pressed or squeezed at the wrist. Pain, weakness and/or numbness may result. Non operative treatment may be effective for mild cases of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, however, for more advanced stages, surgical intervention often becomes necessary.

The board-certified physicians of Wilmington Plastic Surgery are very experienced with carpal tunnel surgery, and several are hand surgery specialists. The procedure involves cutting the ligament that is pressing on the nerve, which usually results in significant improvement and a quick recovery. The WPS surgeons use a limited incision approach to effectively treat carpal tunnel syndrome which creates minimum discomfort and facilitates a speedy recovery.
