For younger patients, BBL HEROic helps to maintain the skin’s supple properties, protecting it from the signs of aging. Patients who have begun to show the effects of aging or sun damage can restore their appearance with a rejuvenated, youthful appearance with BBL HEROic.
What to Expect From Your BBL Treatment
The light energy generates heat to the skin, stimulating skin cell regeneration. BBL HEROic technology penetrates deep into the skin’s tissue, increasing the body’s natural ability to restore the skin and fight the appearance of aging.
At your appointment, one of our talented, Sciton-certified estheticians will perform your laser treatment. Lying comfortably on a treatment bed, an esthetician will clean and prep the treatment area. Once treatment begins, an esthetician will dab the treatment area, creating a quick, hot pulse of light. BBL treatments are not painful but can provide mild discomfort – our providers do their best to ensure patient comfort. After treatment, patients can expect some mild redness and swelling which should go down in 24 hours. The treatment area could feel hot, almost like a sunburn.

BBL HEROic has been cleared for the following conditions (but is not limited to):
- Benign pigmented lesions (age spots, freckles, redness)
- Cutaneous lesions (skin of a different texture, thickness, or color)

- Acne control, from moderate to (pustular inflammatory acne vulgarism)
BBL Treatment Process
At Wilmington Plastic Surgery and Med Spa we require a complimentary cosmetic consultation with one of our laser technicians prior to any laser treatment. During your consultation, your provider will discuss treatment expectations, pre and post-treatment care, expected results, and establish a treatment regimen for optimal results.
Prior to treatment, ensuring the use of sunscreen and sun protection is critical – in which, BBL is not effective for all skin types. After your treatment, you may notice redness in the treated area which will subside within a few hours.
Patients may notice their pigmented spots begin to darken, almost resembling a coffee ground, which will fade and flake off as your skin continues to repair itself.

Patients who are seeking correction of pigmentation (reds and browns) are the perfect candidates! BBL HEROic is not recommended for all skin types. Talk with one of our estheticians to see if you are a candidate!
Patients can get a BBL treatment any time of year, depending on the amount of sun exposure. We recommend most patients be treated with lasers in the fall to avoid any burns and/or hypo/hyperpigmentation.
Prior to your appointment, please stop using retinol products at least 5 days prior. If you are prone to cold sores, you will need to pre-treat with an antiviral.
After your treatment, we recommend using a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen (always!) Stop all products with active ingredients during the healing process, such as retinol or Vitamin-C. Limit sun exposure for 7 days after your treatment. Avoid exercise 48 hours after your treatment. Make-up is okay.
